SEASON KICK-OFF NIGHT!

Saturday, October 14th at the

Barronett Community Center

Cumberland Hockey is opening up the season with an evening packed with great food, fun raffles, and best of all, great music!  This event is similar to our former Summer Fun Night with several raffles to be held throughout the evening, and a major raffle with the drawing to be held when the bands are done for the night at 12:00 p.m.

Enclosed please find raffle tickets that we would like each family to sell.  They are only $2.00 each, or 3 for $5.00.  We have enclosed 12 tickets, which would give Cumberland Hockey approximately $20 per family in sales.  The raffle ticket sales may be turned in prior to the event at The Apothecary or the Municipal Utility office, Or at the Community Center the night of the event.

The event will begin at 6:00 p.m., with bands ready to start at 7:00.  There will be a cover charge for admission of $5.00 for adults, children age 12 and under is $3.00.  Please call 822-3328 by Sunday, October 8th, if you can help.     Thanks!!

      Trophies Wanted

If there are any former coaches, assistant coaches, or even current ones that have trophies that Cumberland Hockey teams have been awarded in the past, we would appreciate you bringing them into our arena so that we may show them off in a new Trophy Case/Display that will be constructed.  It would be great if the trophies were brought in any time after our arena opens for the season!!

    Calendar Raffle Update…

Please remember to turn in sales as soon as possible.  Also, ANY CALENDARS STILL UNSOLD BY NOVEMBER 1ST, TURN BACK IN to the Utility or the Apothecary, so that other hockey members can have the opportunity to sell them.   THANKS!

And now, a new column from our

Club President, Vince Gunderson…

                             President’s Perspective

With ice just weeks away, the 2006 hockey season is knocking at the door. Going into this season, I am very optimistic about the health of our program. Although the Peewee and Bantam numbers are challenging High School and U19 Girls are solid. To me the real unquestionable sign of health is the strong numbers at our younger levels Adams, Mites, and Squirts defiantly our future.

The number one key to the future growth and success of our organization is abundant youth participation at all our levels by both male and females. It is incumbent upon all of us, I repeat all of us who love this sport to promote it and recruit new, and past participants. This is achievable with joint and continuous efforts. My thanks to those of you who have and continue to do so. Continued progress in this arena is critical to our longevity.

Revenue growth remains a top priority. Without revenue the top-notch facility we are privileged to enjoy along with Cumberland Hockey will eventually become a faded memory. This should not and cannot happen and will not if each and every family contributes their time, energy, and participation equally. I am optimistic this will be the case.

Moving forward, let us make this season joyful and memorable for our youth! How? It starts with our families and the examples displayed. Positive encouragement, unsurpassed sportsmanship, self-control, relinquishment of negativism, unsolicited criticism, and the banishment of coach bashing are good positive starting points. Cancers in the past that have infected our program by detrimental behind the back comments must be abolish. We stand on the horizon of a complete renewal of our youth hockey program, let the past Rest in Peace, and our new journey begin. God bless our youth.

LET’S PLAY HOCKEY!

My regards,

Vince Gunderson, Club President
